Fur coat storage
Storage plays a very important role in the preservation of fur coat skins.
Our on-site vault has a storage capacity of over 6,000 coats. Made of reinforced concrete, the ambient temperature varies around 5 degrees. With good ventilation and controlled humidity, the animal’s fat is preserved. Because fur secretes fat (like our hair) and it’s this fat that keeps the leather supple, from drying out and tearing. So fur storage is just the thing to prolong the life of your coat.
What’s more, the lights used in the vault are D.E.L. lights, which emit no heat. And the only way to access it is through an armored door like the ones used in banks.
Why store your coat?
- Coat skins risk drying out. The consequences are that the skins tend to tear and lose their hair, which is unfortunately irreversible and irreparable.
- The fur may yellow and/or fade if exposed to heat and/or light, which is also irreversible and irreparable.
- A coat placed in a damp environment can lead to mildew and a musty smell. You can’t remove mold from a mantle, and it’s very difficult, if not impossible, to get rid of a musty smell.
- Finally, it’s possible that moths or beetles are attacking the fur leather. These little insects leave a trail of holes behind them. In this case, we can assess the extent of the damage and repair it if possible.
We offer a free pick-up and delivery service covering a large territory including the Island of Montreal, the North Shore and the South Shore.
